If you’re noticing a puddle of water on the ground outside your furnace, or if that puddle has been steadily increasing in size, then it sounds like your furnace is leaking! If this is what is happening, what you can do about it varies from situation to situation. We’ve outlined some hvac faq and common reasons why your furnace may be leaking.
Your thermostat is a small but important device that controls the temperature in your home. If your thermostat has gone blank or turns on momentarily before it turns off again, you may be concerned. Does it mean your furnace or air conditioning is broken? Not necessarily. Most of the time, a blank thermostat screen can be easily fixed if you can find out what caused it.
The filter is used during both heating and cooling seasons. Your furnace filter needs to be changed (or cleaned if you use a permanent filter). The filter has a dirty job collecting airborne dust, pet hair, and other small particles so they don’t harm your furnace’s components.
Is your furnace or AC fan running continuously?
First, try this: Make sure your thermostat fan setting is on AUTO not ON. Then, turn the thermostat to a temperature that’s lower than the current room temperature (when in heat mode) or higher than the current room temperature (when in cooling mode) and wait 3 to 5 minutes.
If your furnace blower motor or draft inducer is failing, you may hear you a loud noise. You should call or send us a message to have it evaluated.
Although your furnace and AC may use natural gas, electricity, propane or oil to heat and cool your home, it needs a good dose of electricity to power all of its electrical components. Some of the largest parts in your furnace and AC that use electricity include the blower motor, AC compressor, circuit board, as well as the gas valve. If you have an older furnace, it may utilize a standing pilot light instead of an electronic ignition source.
Ice on your air conditioning unit often happens because of low refrigerant charge, or because air is not flowing properly through the system. If you have ice on your air conditioner, shut the unit off and allow it to defrost. This is required to troubleshoot the problem. Call us for service.
